To keep the skin glowing and healthy, here are some simple, but effective tips.
Wash the face with room temperature water. Do not scrub or stretch the facial skin. Treat the skin gently, avoid harsh chemicals and artificial cosmetics. Try to use food grade ingredients available in the kitchen which is fresh and easily available. Skin can react differently to the weather conditions, pollution or the food ingested along with ageing. It is in the best interest to adopt to the changes and requirements so that the texture, look and health of the skin can be maintained. Some basic knowledge of skin type is necessary to address different kinds of issues. Some skin concerns include pimples, dark spots, wrinkles, sun burn, complexion etc.

Know the cause
Each concern can be addressed with finding the root cause of the problem. Pimples can be due to natural causes like adolescence, heredity or carelessness to maintain good skin. Basic good habits like washing the face 3 to 4 times a day goes a long way in having good skin. Do not pick or puncture a pimple as it could spread the infection through pus cells. Use Bengal gram powder or green gram powder to clean the face. Keep the face dry and hydrated. Consciously washing every nook and corner of the face and keeping the face oil free is important. Never use hot water on the face and the skin these are very sensitive.
Wrinkles of the skin is due to ageing or lack of nourishment to the skin. It needs constant oil nourishment to be elastic and healthy depending on the weather. In summer oil is produced naturally due to sweat and hence does not need much of an effort to maintain. But in winter or monsoon, skin needs moisturizing and nourishment to avoid wrinkles. Milk cream, almond oil, sandal wood oil, coconut oil, olive oil, neem oil etc. are some most effective moisturizers to the skin. When skin is massaged in castor oil for one hour washed, it regains the lost elasticity.

Sun burn can be treated by applying a mixture of 2 tsp of lemon juice, 2tsp fresh milk and 2 tsp rose water overnight and rinsing the next morning with normal cold water.
To lighten the dark complexion of the skin, soak 4 almonds overnight. Make a smooth paste of skinned almonds, add 1.5 tsp Bengal gram powder, 1 tsp fresh boiled cooled milk, 4 tsp lemon juice. Apply a thick layer on the face and leave it for 15 mins. Let the paste fall off after drying. With lukewarm water wet the face and massage gently in circular motion from outer to inner area of the face for 5 minutes. Later wash the face with water. Repeat this once in 3 days. To lighten the skin, cut a potato with the skin in slices and soak in water. Use each piece to gently scrub the face, neck and hands in circular motion for 5 minutes. Similarly cucumber slices can be used to scrub the skin for lighter complexion.
