There are some occasions when stress can hardly be avoided. Moving houses is definitely one of those occasions. There are so many things to do, organize, pack and remember that people often go crazy when moving and relax only weeks later when it’s all done.
People often do not know how to handle everything and that is why this time is so stressful. It is easy to get lost in the whirl of people, things and important details and some guidance is always welcome.
In case you are just as lost as so many other people in the world when trying to move houses, here are a few things that you can do to relieve some of the stress.
1. Create checklists. This is one of the first things that you should do. Write down everything that you need to do weeks in advance and as something comes up, simply add it to the list. This way you will not forget anything and you’ll be organized on the day of the move. If possible, write down where all of your things are, which box is dedicated to what etc.
Organization will lower your stress levels by a lot since you’ll have your lists to refer to. Even researches clearly state that writing things down can help you feel less anxious.
2. Organize care for your children and pets on the day of the move. Children and pets get bored and can hurt themselves in situations like moving. Adults don’t have the time and they are already too overwhelmed to take care of them. In order to avoid additional stress, make an arrangement for someone to take care of your children and pets.
This way you’ll avoid many dangerous situations and let go of some stress. These arrangements should be made especially on the day of the move so you’ll be free all day to get the house in order.
3. Prepare for house cleaning. Even though most people will clean the house for you before they leave, you should always e prepared for cleaning. Some people will leave the house dirty as well, but in both cases you’ll feel more at home if you clean the house for yourself.
You could hire someone to do it if you don’t have a lot of free time on your hands or you can clean it yourself if you want to save some money. Either way, you’ll hopefully be happy with the results and satisfied to know that your home is clean.
4. Set up rooms that you’ll need the most first. When you first get into the house you’ll probably want to set up everything top to bottom. This will likely not be possible and you’ll just end up nowhere. This is why you should unpack the boxes for the rooms that you need the most at first and leave the rest for later. For example, you’ll probably need your bedroom so you have a place to rest and sleep, same goes for bathroom and kitchen. You don’t need to set up whole rooms if you can’t make it, only set up the essentials so you can relax properly on your first day and night in your new home.
Moving into a new house is never easy. It’s bound to cause you some stress. These steps can help you get rid of some of the stress the move is causing you and help you have more fun while doing it. Don’t forget that it will soon be over and that you’ll be happy and stress free again.
